The Most Epic Morning I've Ever Seen at Greenmount

One of those mornings you just don't forget.
I've had a lot of good sessions at Greenmount over the years but this one sits right at the top, like it wasn't even close. Perfect conditions, wave after wave, people getting barrelled left and right, the whole place just alive in a way it doesn't always get to be. I was in the water for hours and honestly I just didn't want to get out. You know those sessions where you keep thinking just one more wave and then another one swings through and you can't leave? That was this morning, that was the whole thing.
What Greenmount does when it's actually on
Greenmount is one of those breaks that can look completely average on a normal day and then just transform when the swell and the wind and the tide all decide to cooperate at the same time. When it's on it's really on, and on this particular morning everything came together and the energy out there was unlike anything I'd felt at that spot in a long time. The contrast in that place on a heavy day is something I haven't found anywhere else on the Gold Coast, the power of it, the way the waves stack up, the way everyone out there feeds off each other.
I came out of the water with a memory card full of frames I still look back on. Not just one or two keepers, a whole session worth of images that I was genuinely proud of, and that doesn't happen all that often. Most sessions you get a couple of good ones and a lot of near-misses. This one just kept giving.
The frame that stopped me when I was editing
When I sat down to go through everything from that morning this particular image just stopped me. The contrast, the power, the way the whole thing compresses into a single moment. There's a weight to it that I think comes from being right there inside it, not on the shore with a long lens, actually in the water with the energy of the place all around you. That's the only way you get an image like this. You have to be in it.
That morning is still with me and this print is the closest thing I have to being able to take someone back there with me.
