Print Scale Guide
Choosing the right print size transforms a wall. Too small and the work disappears, too large and it overwhelms. This guide takes the guesswork out of sizing, so your print arrives, goes up, and feels exactly right.
Size Guide
Prints are available in the A sizes below. Most prints come in A4 to A0, and some limited editions start from A3. Each product page shows the sizes available for that print.
| Size | Centimetres | Inches | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| A4 | 21 × 30 cm | 8.3 × 11.8 in | Desk, shelf, bathroom, gallery wall accent |
| A3 | 30 × 42 cm | 11.8 × 16.5 in | Bedside, bathroom, small walls, gallery walls |
| A2 | 42 × 59 cm | 16.5 × 23.2 in | Hallway, reading nook, home office |
| A1 | 59 × 84 cm | 23.4 × 33.1 in | Living room feature wall, above the bed |
| A0 | 84 × 119 cm | 33.1 × 46.8 in | Open-plan living, dining, entry, studio statement piece |

Viewing Distance
The ideal viewing distance scales with the print. As a guide:
- A4 and A3: comfortable from 0.5 to 1 m (arm's length)
- A2: comfortable from 1 to 2 m
- A1: comfortable from 2 to 3 m
- A0: comfortable from 3 m+
A print viewed too close will feel busy, too far and detail is lost. Match the size to the natural sightline of the room, where you typically sit, stand, or pause.
Room Placement
Living Room
The living room is the most common home for a statement print. Centre the work above a sofa or console, with the bottom edge sitting 15 to 20 cm above the furniture. For a standard 3-seat sofa (around 200 cm wide), an A1 or A0 print holds the wall without crowding it. In open-plan spaces with high ceilings, lean into A0.
Bedroom
Above the headboard, position the print so its centre aligns with the upper third of your wall. For a queen or king bed, an A1 print works well. Go to A0 only if you have the ceiling height (2.7 m+) to balance the scale.
Hallway & Entry
Narrow walls call for vertical prints. An A2 portrait hung at eye level (centre at around 145 to 155 cm from the floor) creates immediate impact without blocking the sightline. For longer hallways, a staggered pair creates rhythm.
Home Office & Studio
Choose a print that grounds the room, something with presence behind a desk or anchoring a creative space. A1 is the sweet spot: substantial without dominating a work environment.
Bathroom
Keep it considered. A single A4 or A3 print brings personality without clutter. Choose a frame with glass for protection in higher-humidity spaces.
One Large Print vs. Gallery Wall
One Large Print
A single oversized print is the most confident choice: minimal, editorial, and easy to live with. It suits modern interiors, clean walls, and spaces where you want one piece to do all the talking. Go A1 or larger for a genuinely impactful result.
Gallery Wall
A curated gallery wall works beautifully for collectors, for longer walls, or wherever a single large print would feel isolated. Build around one anchor piece (the largest) and balance with two to four smaller prints. Mix portrait and landscape orientations. Leave consistent gaps of 5 to 8 cm between frames for a cohesive, intentional look.
Tip: Lay your arrangement on the floor before committing to the wall. Live with it for a day and you'll know quickly if the balance is right.
Framing Recommendations
Prints look their best framed and glazed. A few guidelines:
- Frame colour: Natural oak and matte black suit the majority of prints. White works well in lighter, Scandinavian-influenced interiors.
- Mat/mount board: A white or off-white mat adds breathing room and elevates the presentation. For A4 to A2, a 5 to 7 cm border is ideal. For A1 and A0, 8 to 10 cm.
- Glass: Anti-reflective or UV-protective glass preserves colour and reduces glare, particularly important for rooms with natural light.
- Float mounting: For a gallery-style finish, ask about float mounting, which makes the print look like it's hovering within the frame.
Framing and custom orders are available on request, depending on your location. Email support@devoncooper.co with the print you're interested in and where you're based, and I'll let you know what's possible. You can also frame locally if you'd like to see options in person.
