Good and Bad

I watched an amazing documentary on Netflix. It was based on the story of one of the most influential photographers of the last few decades, Platon. Listening to him describe his view on photography, design elements, and what they mean related so much to my values and vision. Platon said, "For me, a very complex world has to be simplified. It has to be stripped down. Design, for me, was a way out of confusion because great design simplifies a very complicated world."

When I heard this, it was like a light bulb moment. It was as if someone else was speaking the words straight out of my mind. See, for me, photography is much more than just an image uploaded to Instagram or printed on a piece of paper. It's much more about the process, the journey, and the message within the image. If I see something that evokes emotion within me, just maybe, someone else will feel that too.

This portrait of Matt Littlewood was captured during sunset. We were talking a lot about life journeys, experiences, travel, and much more. During this time, my mind started flashing back to past experiences. Good and bad. But there was something very interesting that happened. After a lot of self-work, all my bad experiences, or as I thought they were at the time, became blurry. I had finally accepted them and moved on. So, this image for me represented a journey of what was, learning from the past, and leaving it behind. For now, it's just a blur and isn't as important as this present moment.
