Backyard Wave Pool: The Shot That Changed How I Think About Access

so this one came from a session that i honestly didn't expect much from, sometimes the spots that feel the most unglamorous are the ones that surprise you the most, and that's exactly what happened here.

the thing about shooting in a wave pool versus the ocean is that you have this weird sense of control that you don't get in the water, like the waves are coming on a schedule and you know roughly what you're going to get, but that also means everyone else knows too, so you're competing for angles in a way that doesn't really happen when you're just out in the surf somewhere random. i actually think that constraint made me more creative with this one, having to work around the predictability of it and find something that still felt spontaneous and alive.

what i ended up with was this frame that i think looks way more raw than you'd expect from a wave pool, and that's the part i love most about it, like if i didn't tell you where it was shot you probably wouldn't know. good photography is good photography regardless of where it happens, that's something i really believe.

it's available as a print in a few sizes and honestly it goes really well in surf-themed spaces but also just in any space where you want something with a bit of energy and movement. grab the Backyard Wave Pool print here and see what size works for you.
